How do you pay the server?

The server is planned to be used for "real work". Due to the fact that there are some delays and that the computer has nothing to do, I set it up as an eDonkey server. As soon as the computer is needed for it's intended work there will be no chance for the server anymore.

Where are the banners i can click?

(sad, but true - they really ask me that)

There are no banners. I do this for FREE and I don't want anything for that, but your thank yous. Don't let yourself be fooled by people who want to make money with the donkey.
But if you are relly serious and want to express your thanks, you can buy me a present.
This server will be running as long as it is possible, even without presents!

I don't answer to questions concerning illegal stuff.

Do you have the movie / game / application 'abc' on your server?

No, there are no files on the server. The server is just a kind of phone book. The files are downloaded from other eDonkey users and not from the server.

What is the IP of your server?

The server has a permanent IP x.x.x.x the port is 4242.

Why do you use such strange portnumbers?

It is more difficult for the ISPs to filter the donkey, when not all servers use the same portnumbers.
In other words: When all servers use the same port number, the provider can simply "shut" this port number and then no one can use the donkey anymore. To make the system less "vulnerable" it is important to use different port numbers.

Can I use your server as a seed-server?

Sure, as long the server is running there will be no changes. Neither the IP nor the port numbers (except there are good reasons)

How can I force my edonkey to connect to your server?

Connections can't be reserved. For myself i do it this way: I delete all servers in my serverlist but mine. I set the donkey to "Always stay connected" and simply wait. New servers were transmited by the server at connect.
You can also load a fresh server.met into your donkey by typing "glist URLtoSERVER.MET" into the status window of your donkey.

Why do i get messages from your server?

I have over 20 GB incoming traffic to wrong ports at the moment (03/2003). This is for one part traffic to the ports of the no longer existing server #2, but also other garbage. As this is completely useless, IPs sending pakets to wrong ports will get blocked by my firewall for one hour and will get a message via donkey-chat which wrong port they used and they are blacklisted.

The reasons for such pakets are various, but here are some examples:

You have loaded a broken or outdated serverlist (server.met) which lists a wrong port number for my ip
You activated the option "Update serverlist when a client connects" in your emule and a client sent you a wrong port number for my ip
- You made a portscan or some other stupid things with my server
Some program has sent a paket to a wrong port to my server. Find out which one.
